Bylaws of the AAWGA
Article I.
Name
The name of this Association shall be the Austin Area Women’s Golf Association (AAWGA).
Article II.
Purpose
The purpose of this Association shall be to fulfill its constitutionally stated purposes by encouraging the full participation in all of its activities by its membership.
Article III.
Membership
The three classes of membership as set forth in the Constitution shall be further defined as:
- Association Clubs: Women’s Golf Associations, in good standing, affiliated with a private club or municipal course located in the Austin area, may be admitted to membership upon petition to and approval of the Governing Board of the Association.
- Association Members: Any woman associated with an attested, established handicap is eligible to join their Association Club in good standing and participate in the Association upon payment of the Association Membership fees.
- Individual Members: Any woman, with an attested established handicap is eligible to join an “At Large” group and is eligible for participation in the Association upon payment of Individual Membership fees.
Article IV.
Elections
Section 1. Election of officers shall occur each year at the final meeting of the Association.
Section 2. Nomination for office shall be made by the Nominating Committee, the members of which are not precluded from service in any capacity.
Section 3. Nominations for any office may be made from the floor at the final general meeting. However, in such event, the President must immediately convene a meeting of the Governing Board to elect officers by written ballot.
Section 4. In the event that any office becomes vacant, the Governing Board shall appoint a replacement until the next election.
Article V.
Officers and their duties
Section I. The President, or in her absence or disability the Vice President, shall preside at all regular and called meetings of the Executive Committee, the Governing Board, and the General Membership and shall have supervision over all affairs of the Association. The President may appoint individual members to any Special Committee that she may deem necessary to assist in achieving the Association’s goals and fostering its purposes.
Section 2. The Vice President may preside over any meeting in the event of the absence or disability of the President. The administration of the two-day Eclectic Tournament and the AAWGA Championship Tournament is the responsibility of the Vice President. The Vice President has the duty of appointing a Tournament Chairman for each of these events. In the absence of such an appointment, the Vice President shall serve in this capacity. If a Tournament Chairman is appointed, she may serve on the Executive Committee at its discretion. The Vice President, or her designee, shall be responsible for distributing prizes from play days at the final event for the year.
Section 3. The Treasurer shall be responsible for all financial matters of the Association which shall include but not be limited to: the collection of dues from each class of membership, the preparation of an annual budget and year-end reports, the expenditure of all monies, the establishment of quotas for events, and the maintenance of accurate fiscal records which shall be open to inspection at all times and will be examined annually. Section 4. The Secretary shall keep the written records of the Association which shall include recorded minutes for all meetings of the Association, its Board and Committees and shall provide secretarial support to the Association.
Section 5. The Historian shall be responsible for collecting and organizing documents that record the history of the Association. (Amended 6/25/98)
Section 6. The term of office shall be for a period of one year.
Section 7. The immediate Past-President, or her designee, shall be responsible for collecting data for the Inter-Club Competition, as described in Section 7 hereof, at the conclusion of each month’s play day.
- An Inter-Club Competition record comprised of the best two low gross and two low net scores for each event from each participating Association shall be maintained throughout the year.
- It shall be the duty of the immediate Past President to secure the plaques from the previous year’s recipients for engraving and deliver to the new winners.
Article VI.
Rules of Procedure and Competition
Section I. The following order of business shall be observed at all meetings of the Association.

Section 2. All competition shall be in accordance with the U.S.GA. Rules of Golf and its Decisions.
Section 3. At any regular event, Local Rules may be invoked upon the recommendation of the Host Club Golf Professional with the approval of the Executive Committee.
Section 4. Interpretations of the Rules and any question not governed by or regarding the Rules shall be resolved at the conclusion of play by the Host Club Golf Professional in consultation with the Executive committee.
Section 5. Handicaps shall be computed in accordance with the current system established by the U.S.G.A.
